Cheryl Keefer Fine Art

Island Spring recently earned a place in the Jekyll Island Arts Festival, Goodyear Cottage.

Cheryl Keefer has been seeking refuge and refreshment on St. Simons Island 35 years. Keefer delights in the beauty and life rhythms of the island and the way its shores beacon families and friends to share precious moments. With each visit the artist is compelled to capture her experiences on canvas.

Keefer often sets up a portable easel on site, painting en plein air to construct a sense of place. In the studio she uses photographs and memory to enhance her pieces. “Each painting in this collection is an attempt to savor, celebrate, and preserve a bit of this island that is beloved by so many.”

The paintings feature sisters, couples, friends and solitary figures spending time on the beach, sunny umbrellas, moody marsh sunsets, views of the ocean, and colorful village scenes. The pieces vary in size and include small 5x7 inch vignettes to major works that are 3x4 feet.

Keefer is an accomplished painter and has received national recognition for her impressionistic oil and acrylic paintings. She spends part of her time in Asheville, NC where she has a working studio that is open to the public.
